Andrew P. Crane (Open Brand Productions) has worked for the non-profit American Cinematheque in Los Angeles as a programmer and in membership for nearly 10 years and has conducted countless discussions with filmmakers after screenings in this capacity.  Prior to this, he was the booker for the Pikme-up cafe in Los Angeles, the subject of this documentary.  He was the singer/keyboard player and wrote many of the songs for the original Drowning Pool in the 1980’s, recording four lp’s/cd’s. He has written various articles on many aspects of the film business and moderated many panels at film festivals. “The Pikme-up” is Andrew’s feature debut as a
writer, producer, and director as well as conducting the interviews used in the film.

D. Scott Hessels (Damaged Californians) is a writer, media artist, and filmmaker. Writing and producing under the name Damaged Californians (with James Keitel) his films, videos, and artworks have shown in international film and new media festivals, on television, and in contemporary art galleries over the past 20 years. His recent solo works have explored mixing new technologies with cinema and have exhibited in Bilbao, Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. He left a 15 year career in broadcasting to teach digital video at both Otis School of Art and the Design|Media Arts Department at UCLA. He is currently a professor of digital filmmaking at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Scott was a writer, producer, and director on this film and led the UCLA design team as Production Designer.

P. James Keitel (Damaged Californians) is a producer, director, and cinematographer who has been involved in over 25 short and feature films since the late 1980's--the original performance footage from the Pikme-up used in this documentary was shot by James. His body of work produced as co-creator and co-owner of the award-winning multimedia production company Damaged Californians (with Scott Hessels) includes shorts, feature films, documentaries, and web-based interactive projects. In addition to writing, producing, and directing this documentary, James directed the interview shoots and oversaw the post-production.

UCLA Design|Media Arts (www.design.ucla.edu) was instrumental in the production of this documentary. With the generous donation of studios, equipment, and computer technologies from Department Chair Victoria Vesna, students worked with Scott Hessels under the supervision of leading media archeologist Professor Erkki Huhtamo. The students involved in the filming, compositing, animation, and titles of this film are: Gabriel Dunne (art director), David Badgerow, Michael "Flux" Chang, Bruce Chen, CJ Cenizal, Matthew Gale, Shirong Gao, Matthew Motal, and Nick Zynda.
